A PIECE OF OUR CHILDHOODS

as we all know, yesterday shirley temple black passed away. she marked my childhood and early adolescence through her movies, and later my older self with her inspiring life. it only felt appropriate that i drop my program and instead, opt for a post about her. i would like to share all that she inspired in me, and perhaps you can share some things you loved about her too.
- the first video tape i ever remember my parents buying me was a shirley temple movie, and i watched it so many times i could sing along to every bit.

- after that, i got hooked and watched anything of hers i could get my hands on including later films where she first introduced subjects like being a tomboy, liking boys (blush) and being your unique self.

- as a little girl i loved how in all her movies she spread love and smiles, it made me want to do the same.

- she rocked at singing, and let's face it...was a phenomenal dancer.
- later on, she was outspoken about her illness and breast reduction, helping lead the way towards informing and helping women become active against breast cancer all around the world.

- she later also became president of the multiple sclerosis societies as well.

- she never gave up, no matter where she was or what she was suffering in her life she never hid in her home being scared as she had said herself. this is an enormous life example for me.

- she had style that was distinctly hers, and never failed to flaunt it.

- she was appointed ambassador after her move to washington where her husband was newly stationed and became interested in politics. in this position she stayed active and loved. just knowing this makes me proud she was a woman.
